HAND PAINTED PLASTER PLAQUE – 9 Inches High

The Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos is a small image of the Virgin Mary in her invocation of the Immaculate Conception, venerated in the sanctuary located in the city of San Juan de los Lagos, in the state of Jalisco. It is a tradition that is more than 390 years old. It is the second most visited in Mexico after the Virgin of Guadalupe in the Cerro del Tepeyac.

STORY ABOUT HER
The history of the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos dates from the year 1526, when Fray Antonio de Segovia, the first evangelizer of the place, left a small image of the Immaculate Conception of Mary made of corn cane by artisan hands of indigenous people from the state of Michoacán , but it is not until the year 1623 that the fame of the Virgin begins to transcend with the story of her miracles. The small image of Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos measures 33.5 centimeters, and weighs 321.9 grams.

It is made of corn stalk paste called “Tazingueni” kneaded with natural glues and cured with plant poison to prevent moths, made by artisans from the Patzcuaro region, Michoacán. It is dressed in garments that show the passage of God in diocesan life, and it shows off its embroidery with silk, gold and silver threads, with the most beautiful canvases adorned with pearls and precious stones, to show us our gratitude for his infinite love.
